Getting Started with CambridgeSky
- Who are we?
We are CambridgeSky. We are based near St Neots on the Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire border. We specialise in providing beautiful aerial photography to customers all over the east of England.
- Are your services regulated by the CAA?
Yes! We fully comply with all CAA guidelines for all our drones/UAVs. We are regulated by the code of practice that allows us to operate. Sometimes those regulations can cause restrictions in some locations. We can often find solutions to these problems by selecting the most appropriate UAV type.
- Are you insured?
Commercial UAV insurance must meet EC785/2004 regulations. CambridgeSky is fully insured to a value of £5 Million Public Liability. Evidence of insurance is available when booking.
- Are your pilots qualified by the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority)?
Yes, we have extensive training that allows us to operate competently and safely. We plan carefully and do not take any unplanned risks. Safety is always our number one priority.
- How high can you fly?
Under current CAA regulations our drones/UAVs are permitted to fly up to an altitude of 120 meters or 400 feet from the surface. This is almost always high enough to get the most beautiful shots and wide area photography. You will find some of our highest flight level imagery in our gallery.
- Can you fly in the wind, rain and cold? What happens if you can't fly?
Sadly, the weather is often our enemy. Rain and high winds can mean postponing a flight until better conditions exist. Often this may be later the same day, or the following day.
We monitor weather conditions closely several days in advance and will be in touch after booking if we feel weather is likely to impact your project.
Cold winter days can shorten our flight times between battery swaps due to the cold effect on battery run times. We always carry plenty of spares !
- Can I see what is being filmed?
You can ! We aim to show you as much as possible on the day via tablets and mobile screens. Of course we will send you all the video and photography in the format you request.
- What are the regulations on how close to buildings and people you can fly?
We will always discuss with you any limitations that may apply to your project.
Regulations depend on several factors, including the drone/UAV type and who is close by to the area being filmed. As a general rule we always avoid flying over any persons who are not involved in the project and we are not permitted to fly above crowds for safety reasons.
- How much do your services cost?
As a general guide please see our Prices page here.
